Last Call For Winter: Savor The Final Days Of Snow!
- February 28, 2025

Okay, fellow snow lovers, let's be honest – the thought of winter loosening its icy grip can be a bit heartbreaking. But hey, before we fully embrace the sunshine and wildflowers of spring, there's one last chance to celebrate all things snowy and magical in Banff! And guess what? March is THE perfect time to do it.
March in Banff: What's the Weather Like?
Wondering what to pack for your end-of-winter escape? March in Banff is a time of transition, so expect a bit of everything! You'll likely encounter:
Sunshine and Snow: Think crisp, sunny days with a good chance of snow. It's the best of both worlds – perfect for skiing, snowshoeing, and soaking up those bluebird days.
Warming Temperatures: While still chilly, March brings a noticeable warm-up compared to the depths of winter. Daytime temperatures often hover around 0 °C (32 °F) or higher, making outdoor activities more enjoyable.
Packing Tip: Layers are your best friend! Bring a mix of warm clothes, waterproof outerwear, and lighter layers for those warmer days.
Embrace the Winter Wonderland (While It Lasts!)
- Ski Like There's No Tomorrow: March typically brings that sweet spot of perfect ski conditions – think sunshine, softer snow (hello, powder days!), and way fewer crowds on the slopes. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, Banff's legendary ski resorts are calling your name. Picture yourself carving down the slopes of SUNSHINE VILLAGE, feeling the wind in your hair and the sun on your face. Pure bliss!
- Chase Frozen Waterfalls: Okay, we know, waterfalls are cool year-round. But there's something extra special about seeing them frozen solid, like nature hit the “pause” button. Hike to JOHNSTON CANYON or the falls near LAKE LOUISE and prepare to be amazed by the icy masterpieces. Want to get up close and personal? Try a guided ice walk!
- Snowshoe Under a Blanket of Stars: Imagine this: you, a pair of snowshoes, a trail bathed in moonlight, and a sky bursting with stars. BANFF NATIONAL PARK is a Dark Sky Preserve, meaning the stargazing is out of this world (literally!). Join a guided tour or simply find a quiet spot and let the universe wow you.
- Cozy Up Après-ski: After a day of snowy adventures, there's nothing better than warming up by a crackling fire with a hot drink in hand. Banff is full of cozy pubs and restaurants with that perfect après-ski vibe. It's all about comfy chairs, good company, and maybe even some live music.
- Snap Those Winter Memories: The snow-covered landscapes of March are seriously picture-perfect. Don't forget your camera to capture the magic of the mountains, frozen lakes, and snow-dusted trees. These photos will be your reminder of winter's beauty long after the snow has melted.
A Taste of Spring (Just a Little!)
Spring is in the Air: Keep your eyes peeled for the first signs of spring – maybe a tiny green bud on a tree, the sound of melting snow, or a bird singing its heart out. It's a reminder that even as we say goodbye to winter, new beginnings are just around the corner.
Longer Days, More Play: With daylight hours getting longer, you'll have even more time to explore Banff and soak up all that winter goodness.
Sunshine Spring Festival: Fun in the Sun (and Snow!)
If you're looking for an extra dose of fun during your March getaway, look no further than the SUNSHINE SPRING FESTIVAL! The 2025 Sunshine Spring Festival at Banff Sunshine Village, runs from March 8 to May 19. The festival includes unlimited skiing and riding, concerts, and other events. This festival is a celebration of all things spring (with a healthy dose of winter thrown in). All the action takes place at Sunshine Village Ski Resort, just a short drive from Banff town site.
Here's a taste of what you can expect:
- Live Music: Groove to live bands and DJs on the mountain, creating the perfect après-ski vibe.
- On-Mountain Parties: Sunshine Village knows how to throw a party! Get ready for themed events, outdoor BBQs, and a lively atmosphere.
- Ski and Snowboard Events: From friendly races to the legendary Slush Cup (where skiers and snowboarders attempt to skim across a pool of icy water!), there's something for everyone to enjoy, whether you're a participant or a spectator.
- Family Fun: The festival offers plenty of activities for kids, including face painting, games, and snow-themed fun.
Want to join the party? Head over to Sunshine Village for all the details! It's the perfect way to add some extra excitement to your March itinerary in Banff!

Sunshine Village, a Banff National Park ski resort, offers diverse terrain and stunning views.

“My first impression of The Charltons Banff was a very good one. We had arrived hours before check in and knew we'd never find a parking space in town. The staff let me park at the hotel long before check in time. Later, they let us borrow a can of bear spray for all our hikes so we didn't have to buy it. They were super friendly, and we really enjoyed our stay. Our room on the first floor was nice with a comfortable queen bed and a large bathroom with separate tub and shower. We had plenty of space and were very comfortable. The location is a bit out from the main tourist area of town, so keep that in mind if you don't like walking. We do, and the 12 to 15 minute walk into the shopping district of Banff Avenue was no problem at all. If you”
-A nice place in the heart of Banff, Greg S.“This was our first visit to Banff and the Charlton’s Banff Hotel exceeded our expectations. The room was clean and comfortable and the location of the hotel was excellent. The front desk personnel were very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there again the next time we visit the area. ”
-Cathy B,“Good location and amenities! Rooms were modern, spacious and had a view! The pool was awesome!”
-Excellent, Steven J. - Alberta Canada“This is the second time we have stayed at Charltons and with good reason. The rooms are more than spacious for the two of us and had everything we needed on our stay. We arrived late due to a delayed flight and we were greeted graciously by the reception who said they were expecting us and offered food options in the area at such a late hour on a Sunday, having been travelling for nearly 24 hours at that point. The location is also pretty good, it takes about 10 minutes to walk into the centre, with an IGA supermarket nearby too”
-Been here twice now for a reason, Fortune T.“Don't hesitate to stay here, we had a loft room and it was great. Very comfortable bed, good shower pressure, well kept and clean room. We were able to also book ourselves into the pool for the 30 min time-slot, and we also enjoyed that. Very friendly front desk staff. Overall we were very pleased and definitely recommend this hotel! ”
