- November 25, 2024

Not sure what to pack for a Banff Winter Adventure? We got you covered!
We want to ensure you have everything you need for a memorable and comfortable stay amidst the stunning winter landscapes. This packing guide will assist and prepare you for all your winter activities in Banff, whether it's hitting the slopes at the LOCAL SKI RESORTS, exploring the pristine wilderness, or simply enjoying the serene beauty of snow-covered peaks.
1. Essential Clothing Layers
- Base Layers: Start with moisture-wicking thermal tops and bottoms. These will keep you warm and dry by drawing sweat away from your skin.
- Mid-Layers: Think fleece or wool sweaters that provide insulation. They’re perfect for trapping heat and keeping you cozy.
- Outer Layers: A waterproof and windproof jacket and pants are crucial for protection against the elements.
*Look for breathable materials that allow moisture to escape while keeping you dry*
2. Accessories to Keep Warm
- Hats and Beanies: A good quality hat or beanie will help retain body heat, essential for those chilly winds.
- Scarves and Neck Warmers: Protect your neck and face from the biting cold with a warm scarf or neck warmer.
- Gloves or Mittens: Waterproof and insulated gloves or mittens are a must to keep your hands warm and dry.
3. Footwear for Snowy Terrains
- Insulated Boots: Invest in a pair of waterproof, insulated boots with good grip for walking on snow and ice.
- Warm Socks: Wool or thermal socks will keep your feet toasty, especially on long hikes or ski days.
4. Gear for Outdoor Activities
- Ski/Snowboard Equipment: If you’re planning to hit the slopes, don’t forget your skis or snowboard, helmet, and goggles. Rentals are also available in Banff if you prefer to travel light. And great news—we offer convenient ski storage at Charltons Banff, so you can easily store and access your gear!
- Snowshoes and Poles: Perfect for exploring the trails around Banff, these can be rented locally.
- Backpack: A sturdy, waterproof backpack to carry your essentials like water, snacks, and extra layers.
5. Health and Safety Essentials
- Sunscreen and Lip Balm: The sun reflecting off the snow can be intense, so protect your skin with sunscreen and your lips with balm.
- First Aid Kit: Always handy for minor injuries or ailments while exploring the great outdoors.
6. Technology and Gadgets
- Camera: Capture the breathtaking beauty of Banff’s winter scenery.
- Portable Charger: Keep your devices charged to ensure you can capture every moment and stay connected.
7. Après-ski Comforts
- Comfortable Loungewear: After a day of adventure, relax in cozy loungewear back at Charltons Banff.
- Swimwear: Don’t forget your swimsuit for a dip in our INDOOR POOL or HOT TUB.
Remember, the key to enjoying Banff’s winter magic is staying warm and comfortable. In whatever pace you prefer, preparing with the right gear ensures you make the most of your time in this spectacular setting.
Quick Tips:
1. Pack Hand and Foot Warmers: These small, disposable heat packs can provide extra warmth on especially cold days, perfect for slipping into gloves or boots.
2. Invest in Quality Gear: High-quality gloves, socks, and outerwear can make a big difference in comfort and warmth. It's worth the investment for a better experience.
3. Don’t Forget Sunglasses: The sunlight reflecting off the snow can be intense. Sunglasses with UV protection are essential to protect your eyes.
4. Download Offline Maps: Cell service can be spotty in the mountains, so download maps of the area before heading out to ensure you can navigate your adventures.
Pack your bags with confidence and embark on an unforgettable winter journey— schedule your stay at Charltons Banff today and let the adventures begin!

Here at the Charltons Banff Hotel, we want to share our insider tips on making the most of this unique time in the Canadian Rockies.

“My first impression of The Charltons Banff was a very good one. We had arrived hours before check in and knew we'd never find a parking space in town. The staff let me park at the hotel long before check in time. Later, they let us borrow a can of bear spray for all our hikes so we didn't have to buy it. They were super friendly, and we really enjoyed our stay. Our room on the first floor was nice with a comfortable queen bed and a large bathroom with separate tub and shower. We had plenty of space and were very comfortable. The location is a bit out from the main tourist area of town, so keep that in mind if you don't like walking. We do, and the 12 to 15 minute walk into the shopping district of Banff Avenue was no problem at all. If you”
-A nice place in the heart of Banff, Greg S.“This was our first visit to Banff and the Charlton’s Banff Hotel exceeded our expectations. The room was clean and comfortable and the location of the hotel was excellent. The front desk personnel were very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there again the next time we visit the area. ”
-Cathy B,“Good location and amenities! Rooms were modern, spacious and had a view! The pool was awesome!”
-Excellent, Steven J. - Alberta Canada“This is the second time we have stayed at Charltons and with good reason. The rooms are more than spacious for the two of us and had everything we needed on our stay. We arrived late due to a delayed flight and we were greeted graciously by the reception who said they were expecting us and offered food options in the area at such a late hour on a Sunday, having been travelling for nearly 24 hours at that point. The location is also pretty good, it takes about 10 minutes to walk into the centre, with an IGA supermarket nearby too”
-Been here twice now for a reason, Fortune T.“Don't hesitate to stay here, we had a loft room and it was great. Very comfortable bed, good shower pressure, well kept and clean room. We were able to also book ourselves into the pool for the 30 min time-slot, and we also enjoyed that. Very friendly front desk staff. Overall we were very pleased and definitely recommend this hotel! ”
